All Your Burning Questions Answered
Since starting Nerridah & Ross, we have been asked a lot of interesting questions. We’ve been asked about our favourite brands and fragrances, what candle types suit what space, and how to make candles last longer.
We thought it might be good to put all our answers in one place, so, we’ve compiled a list of some of the most common questions we get asked below for your perusal. If we still haven’t answered your burning question, explore our FAQ page or feel free to get in touch with us via email…
What is the Best Candle to Buy?
The great thing about candles is that they come in all different shapes and sizes so that you can find the right candle for your space. Many of our scented candles come in colourful containers and glass jars that can be chosen to suit your home décor and complement a space.
For example, Glasshouse Fragrances’ candles come in a range of different colours and patterns so you can find something that can be a talking point if you don’t want your candles to blend in. Remember though – they are only available while stocks last!
If you are looking for something neutral or white, you can try Elume's candles or Ecoya's range. Other colours available in glass include recycled brown glass jars by The Commonfolk Collective or the smoky glass used by Scarlet & Grace in their newest release.
If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, consider Sheike Industries. Their candles contain real flecks of 24 carat gold, and they are so pretty to watch as they burn. Myles Gray’s range of crystal candles can be a great choice if you like manifesting or would like something that aligns to a feeling you are keen to create. And for the ultimate in decadence, Only Orb’s range of Teak and Glass Orbs are truly beautiful.
What are Pillar Candles?
Wax pillar candles are not housed in a container, and come in a range of sizes that are usually cylindrical. Depending on the type you buy, they could be coloured or white, fragranced or non-fragranced. They can be used as a statement piece and look wonderful on a decorated table. Like jar candles, you need to look after them to get the best out of them and choose the right size for your area or occasion.
Can I Burn Candles Outdoors?
We carry a range of candles that you can enjoy outdoors. However, it is important to remember that candles are made from wax, so avoid leaving them in direct sunlight between burns. Burning Elume’s or Ecoya’s outdoor candles can help to keep pesky mosquitos and other insects away so that you can enjoy summer nights outside without getting bitten!
What are the Most Popular Candle Scents?
It’s true, we all like different scents, and what one person loves another person might find overwhelming. We find that people seem to like different fragrances depending on the seasons (Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring) or for different celebrations throughout the year, such as Christmas. To try and make it easier, we group our candles into scents so that if you know you like one in particular, you can find a range of products you might like in that fragrance family. We find that Fruity is often a favourite with our customers and our next biggest sellers are Foodie and Fresh.
What are the Best Candle Brands?
When we started Nerridah & Ross, we only wanted to stock the very best brands. To do that, we needed to find those that make the best products, use the best materials and have a wide range and appeal. We love that we offer customers the option of buying from 18 different brands in one single purchase! Of course, it’s just like having children so we could never pick just one as the best, we love them all! If we stock them, we believe they are already the best!
How can I use Tealight Candles?
Tealight candles are great for setting a mood. Each tealight comes in its own little holder and you can choose from fragranced and non-fragranced. A great advantage of using tealights is that you can choose a different fragrance every day if you wish. If you want to create a festive mood, you can put the tealights inside jars or vases so they can be hung up or scattered around the room. Alternatively, you can use tealight holders to display them.
Why should I choose Crystal Candles?
As previously mentioned, Myles Gray’s crystal infused candles are the best you can buy and we are so happy to have them in our collection. Each candle contains crystals that can be used for a particular purpose and each candle also contains affirmations that you can use whilst burning your candle, so you can mix and match fragrances to create the mood you desire. When you have finished burning your candle, collect the crystals and add them to your collection.
Why Can’t I Smell my Candle?
It’s really important that if you want to fragrance your space with a candle, that you choose the right candle. If you wish to fragrance a large, open space, make sure you choose larger candles with stronger scent profiles, such as Ecoya’s Grand Celebration candle with 4 wicks or Circa’s 350g candles and Glasshouse’s 380g candles that have two wicks. You can also use more than one candle and it is absolutely fine to mix and match scents. Remember to only burn your candles for the amount of time recommended on the box or in the product description on our website.
Do I really need to Trim my Candle Wicks?
Yes. As the wax level drops, the wicks effectively become longer, so we advise that you trim the wicks to 7mm and ensure they're upright prior to each new burn. We have candle care accessories that make taking care of your candles and trimming your wicks an easy job.
Do you Recycle Candle Jars?
Unfortunately, we don’t. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t! There are lots of different ways to use your jars in everyday life, and we have put some ideas together that you can read about here.
What is the difference between Cotton Wicks and Wood Wicks?
Wick types are a personal preference. Whilst most of the candles we stock have cotton wicks, we do also have some candles with wood wicks. You might choose a candle with a wood wick if you love the sound of a crackling fire and want to add to the mood you are creating with your candles. Surf Coast Candles use wood wicks in their jar candles and also in their travel tins which allows you to take the crackling fireplace with you on your travels. The Bare Basics range by Myles Gray also have wood wicks.
Do you make Personalised Candles?
No, we don’t, but we do sell The Commonfolk Collective’s Dictionary candles which have definitions printed on them for a range of people and occasions. You can choose to celebrate family members such as your aunty, grandparent, dad and mum, or words of gratitude such as thank you and grateful. You can also choose words that might carry some special meaning such as bridesmaid, maid of honour, home, family and love. Tell someone they are your soul mate, soul sister, friend or honour your boss with a candle that is just right.
